Biographical Sketch:
Shuyu Zhang is a Ph.D. student in Forest Resources at the University of Maine. She received her master’s training in GIS and Remote Sensing at Lund University in Sweden, where she developed experience in spatial analysis, remote sensing, environmental modelling, and geospatial applications for climate and ecological studies. Her previous research has included urban flood accessibility modelling, species distribution modelling, vegetation and climate data analysis, and Web GIS development. She is interested in applying geospatial approaches to understand environmental change better and support sustainable resource management.

Research Area:
Shuyu’s doctoral research will be connected to the South Greenland Arctic Agroecosystems project through the Climate Change Institute. Her work is expected to focus on subarctic agroecosystem modeling, with particular attention to agricultural practices, freshwater use, and ecosystem responses under different climate scenarios. She is interested in combining remote sensing, spatial analysis, and process-based ecosystem modeling to interpret interactions among climate forcing, land and water use, and biogeochemical cycles in high-latitude agroecosystems.
