Biographical Statement: Kelly Hoover is currently a graduate student in the Climate Change Institute, working towards a Masters in Quaternary and Climate Studies. Originally from North Carolina, she graduated from Western Carolina University in 2023 with a BS in Anthropology, Archaeological Studies, and a BS in Biology, Ecology and Evolution.
Research Area:
At the University of Maine, she is researching the relationships between humans and their environment under instruction from Dr. Daniel Sandweiss. During her undergraduate career, Kelly worked in western North Carolina on the excavation of a prominent 13th century Cherokee village in the Appalachian Mountains where she was trained in remote sensing on archaeological sites from 2021-2023 as a Gradiometer Technician. Today, her focus is climate archaeology, particularly on the coastal desert region of Peru where she continues to incorporate remote sensing technologies into archaeological research, using GPR data collection to research evidence of early civilizations utilizing intense climatic events, like ENSO, for monumental construction.
