Biographical Statement: Cory (he/him) is a graduate student working with Dr. Paul Mayewski as a part of the third cohort of the Systems Approaches to Understanding and Navigating the New Arctic (SAUNNA) NRT. Cory grew up in Maine and first moved out of the state to study Economics with a focus on human decision making at Swarthmore College near Philadelphia, PA. After undergraduate studies, Cory spent several years traveling, building homes and boats, and growing vegetables. Eventually he returned to school to get a Juris Doctorate from Maine School of Law. During his time at Maine Law his research focused on Environmental and Oceans law and policy.
Research Statement: I am interested in how climate drivers and abrupt climate changes interact with trace metals, organic pollutants, excess nutrients, etc. in marine and coastal ecosystems. Particular interest in understanding the risks and uncertainties for marine and coastal ecosystems under these complex multiple stressors and how a better understanding might facilitate improved predictions of future changes in the global biogeochemical cycling of contaminants and lead to better policy and decision making to improve both human health and marine ecosystems.
