Michael Howard

Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, University of Maine

 

Biography:  Michael W. Howard is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, and an External Associate of the Climate Change Institute, at the University of Maine. He is the author of Self-management and the Crisis of Socialism (2000), and the editor of Socialism (2001). He is the co-editor (with Karl Widerquist) of Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (2012) and Exporting the Alaska Model (2012). He is a Senior Consultant Editor of Basic Income Studies. He has been the president of the US Basic Income Guarantee Network (2008-2022), and is currently co-chair of the Maine Basic Income Security Committee. He is the author of over 60 articles and book chapters in social and political philosophy. Much of his current work is at the intersection of climate change policy and distributive justice.
