Faculty Advisors: Dr. Paul A. Mayewski, Dr. Andrei Kurbatov
Biographical Statement: After receiving my master’s degree in 2009, I have worked as a researcher at the Tbilisi State University, Institute of Geography. My main research focus was studying the mountain glaciers and understanding how glaciers have responded to climate changes. Even though I have already gained some experience in this field I am looking forward to learning about the modern advances in the field of paleoclimate research at CCI.
Research Area:
My graduate program is related to paleoclimate reconstructions from the oldest ice core records collected in the Allan Hills Blue ice area in Antarctica. I am working on creating new standards for Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (LA ICP-MS) and analyzing impurities in glacial ice cores. Additionally, I am studying the climate impacts on the Kazbegi Region (Georgia) in the Caucasus Mountains induced by anthropogenic forcing, as well as its influence on future water resources.
