UMaine Summer University Program: Climate Change Teaching Tools – K. Glover
The University of Maine Climate Change Institute and Division of Lifelong Learning will host its first UMaine Summer University program for preK-12 educators this summer. This program is designed for educators to learn more about climate change and, in particular, how to bring this important subject area into the classroom in meaningful ways for students. “Climate Change Teaching Tools” includes a 3-week online course during Session 6 (July 5 – 22) that educators can take for graduate credit. A two-day online workshop will also be offered for professional development CEUs from July 12-13.
The two-day workshop will feature keynote speakers that are renowned experts in climate change from our Institute and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, covering the impacts of climate change to the ocean, land, and ice. The program also features a series of interactive workshops on the Department of Education’s new preK-12 MOOSE climate change curriculum, climate data to use in the classroom, and the impact of climate change on the planetary health. A panel of climate change advocates from the Maine Changemakers Networks is also part of the program.
