The effects of climate change have reached the top of the world: Mount Everest. A University of Maine-led research team discovered that the highest glacier on the mountain — the South Col Glacier — and others are rapidly disappearing, losing several decades of ice and snow accumulation annually due to human-induced climate change. These findings are the latest from the 2019 National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition, led by UMaine Climate Change Institute director Paul Mayewski.
