Gill interviewed by Washington Post on using ‘Anthropocene’
The Washington Post interviewed University of Maine associate professor of terrestrial paleoecology Jacquelyn Gill on using the term “Anthropocene,” which defines the age of irreversible human impacts on the planet, in light of a decision by geologists to not mark Anthropocene as an official period in Earth’s geological timeline. “We all as a community of citizens of planet Earth decided that this was a word to refer to the age of humanity, and the flexibility that different groups brought to that term really gave it a lot of power,” Gill said.
