Birkel interviewed by BDN about mud season
Sean Birkel, Maine state climatologist and assistant professor with a joint appointment in University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the UMaine Climate Change Institute, spoke to the Bangor Daily News about the impact of climate change on Maine’s mud season. Birkel said that thanks to climate change, exceptionally muddy conditions could start earlier and last longer, as extreme weather events with wildly fluctuating temperatures are becoming increasingly common and leaving a muddy wake in their path.
