Arctic System Science (ARCSS)

This program coordinates and extends United States research under the Arctic Research and
Policy Act of 1984 and directs the development, implementation, and coordination of national
policies and research plans. NSF is the lead agency for such activities, and the NSF Director
chairs the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee. The Director also is an ex-officio
member of the Arctic Research Commission, appointed by the President pursuant to the Act.
