SUMMARY:Climate on Tap - The UN Climate Negotiations - C. Isenhour & N. Micinski
DESCRIPTION:The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change took place last month in Dubai.  The meetings were of significant interest because they were – controversially – led by an Emerati with significant ties to the oil industry.  Despite this controversy\, COP28 marked the completion of the first Global Stocktake\, a 5-year process designed to evaluate collective progress toward the goals of the Paris Agreement.  Dr. Isenhour and Dr. Micinski will share key insights from the meetings – including some exciting headline and headwinds\, as well as quite a few headscratchers. \n  \nJan. 31\, 2024. SUMMARY:Climate on Tap: A Frozen Penobscot Bay and Other Musing from Maine's Climate Archives - S. Birkel & K. Maasch
DESCRIPTION:Join Sean Birkel and Kirk Maasch as they open the vault on Maine’s historical climate archives! \n  \nMany people are familiar with the fabled “Year Without a Summer” of 1816\, when several unusually intense cold waves brought killing frost\, and even snowfall\, to Maine during the summer months. But fewer people know that during some of the coldest winters of the 18th\, 19th\, and early 20th centuries the Penobscot Bay froze\, permitting foot- and even vehicle -traffic on ice between the mainland and islands. Some winters were so intense that “ice embargoes” brought ship travel to a halt along the East Coast in Long Island Sound and Chesapeake Bay – a stark contrast with today’s climate. \n \nFebruary 28th\, 2024 \nNocturnem Draft Haus\, 56 Main Street\, Bangor\, ME\n5:30 – 6:30 PM

SUMMARY:CLIMATE ON TAP - JOURNEY INTO CLIMATE - P. MAYEWSKI
DESCRIPTION:Join Paul Andrew Mayewski as he recounts five decades of global exploration\, discovery\, and climate change research in some of Earth’s most remote locations. \nJourney into Climate is told through the personal experiences of the internationally acclaimed glaciologist\, climatologist\, and polar explorer Paul Andrew Mayewski. He and his teams have traveled throughout Antarctica\, the Himalayas\, Greenland\, the South American Andes\, and the Southern Ocean to understand how and why climate changes. By living and working in some of the most remote places on Earth\, their journey documents the critical role played by past climate changes on the course of civilization. Mayewski has many media appearances\, including multiple “CBS 60 Minutes” episodes and the Emmy Award winning “Years of Living Dangerously.”  \nMarch 27TH – 5:30 – 6:30 PN \nNocturnem Draft Haus\, 56 Main Street\, Bangor\, Maine \n  \n \n
