Hydrological methods not only help reconstruct\npast water environments but also illuminate the influence of changing\nclimates and conditions in the Andean highlands on coastal water flows.\nThrough a case study of the Supe River basin in north-central coastal\nPeru\, I developed a paleohydrological model that provides a basis for\ncomparing the hydrological effects of changing climates and other\nenvironmental factors to settlement patterns and land use patterns.\n

DESCRIPTION:The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change took place last month in Dubai.  The meetings were of significant interest because they were – controversially – led by an Emerati with significant ties to the oil industry.  Despite this controversy\, COP28 marked the completion of the first Global Stocktake\, a 5-year process designed to evaluate collective progress toward the goals of the Paris Agreement.  Dr. Isenhour and Dr. Micinski will share key insights from the meetings – including some exciting headline and headwinds\, as well as quite a few headscratchers. \n  \nJan. 31\, 2024. DESCRIPTION:Join Sean Birkel and Kirk Maasch as they open the vault on Maine’s historical climate archives! \n  \nMany people are familiar with the fabled “Year Without a Summer” of 1816\, when several unusually intense cold waves brought killing frost\, and even snowfall\, to Maine during the summer months. But fewer people know that during some of the coldest winters of the 18th\, 19th\, and early 20th centuries the Penobscot Bay froze\, permitting foot- and even vehicle -traffic on ice between the mainland and islands.
