Dr. Olsen holds an adjunct appointment in CCI and is also a faculty member in the School of Biology & Ecology. Using birds as model systems, he investigates the biological responses to a constantly altering landscape. As an evolutionary ecologist, he uses demographic and behavioral approaches to examine population adaptation and viability on range edges. Further, by studying tidal marshes, highly seasonal boreal forests, and human-impacted habitats, Brian measures how individuals and populations respond to environmental variation, with an eye toward understanding how birds have responded to climate changes in the past and how contemporary populations will weather current changes.
