Graduate Program

The Climate Change Institute offers an M.S. degree program with potential for a continuing Ph.D. program through Earth Sciences or another related university department. An Independent Ph.D. program is also possible through the Graduate School. Students affiliated with the institute investigate human and global change, past, present and future. The primary disciplines are: Climatology, Archaeology, Glaciology, Glacial Geology, Ecology, History, Marine Geology, and Modeling.

The M.S. program has two required courses:

ERS 542 - Clilmate and the Earth System

Study of the physical environments of the Quaternary Period with special emphasis on ice-age theories, world-wide terrestrial and marine glacial stratigraphy, paleoclimatology, and effects of environment on society. One weekend field trip. Lec 2, Lab 2. Prerequisite: ERS 541 or permission. Cr 3. Offered every 2nd year.

INT 500 - Climate, Culture and the Biosphere

Selected areas of study - physical, biological and anthropological - related to the Quaternary Period. One weekend field trip may be required. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: permission. Cr Ar.
